Article: STOP COUNTING ONLY REPS!

STOP COUNTING ONLY REPS!

If we only count reps during exercise, this leaves too much room for an extremely wide range of changes in technique week by week. That being said, how can we then measure TRUE progress.

Sure. Progressive overload via adding weight or reps is important when it comes to building muscle. But if the measuring tool is off, then we can't expect a true reading of progress.

Did we progress? Or did we slightly speed up the reps.

Did we progress? or did we simply cut the range of motion shorter vs the other weeks.

Progressive overload can only be applied to measure progress if our technique stays consistent.

Control the weight. 2-3s negative. Ect ect......we've heard all of this a million times before. So it's weird that so many people still get this basic principle wrong.

If you want to see better progress, pay attention to your technique!

It also has the added benefit of massively decreasing risk of injury, after all..... how much progress do you think you're going to make to a muscle if you need 6 weeks out from training it after going for a weight you simply aren't ready for?

Train smart and continually make progress year after year.
